The 2019 BET Awards will honor Nipsey Hussle posthumously with a Humanitarian Award.
Although the rapper was known for his music, which is now his legacy, Hussle was also extremely involved in community activism and philanthropy.
His hard work in those two areas gained him little recognition when he was alive, but now Hussle will be honored for his devotion and dedication to giving back, as well as helping others.
BET announced today they are going to bestow the honor of a Humanitarian Award on Hussle’s memory to be received by his loved ones.

“As a prolific artist and leader, Nipsey Hussle was zealous about driving change for the betterment of his community, empowering and employing those in need and being an influential and highly respected leader,” said Executive Vice-President, Head of Programming for BET, Connie Orlando.
She went on to share what a significant loss Hussle’s death was for the entertainment industry, as well as culture in general. Orlando expressed in the statement that besides his music, the rapper’s legacy will live on through advocacy and the groundwork he laid to help inspire much needed social change.
“We are forever grateful, humbled, and honored to have experienced his presence and we are invested in doing our part to ensure that the marathon will indeed continue. It is an immense honor for us to recognize him with this year’s Humanitarian Award,” Orlando ended the press release.
Along with receiving the Humanitarian Award, the network will also pay tribute to Nipsey Hussle during the 2019 BET Awards show. It was previously announced DJ Khaled, John Legend and YG will take the stage to perform the song ‘Higher.’
The tune is one of the last songs that Hussle was featured on before his death. All three men worked on the original track too and shared a special bond with the rapper.

Nipsey Hussle will be honored for his hard work in helping underserved and underrepresented communities, with a Humanitarian Award at the BET Awards. The network has not yet revealed who will present or accept the award.
2019 BET Awards will Sunday, June 23rd at 8 PM EST and will air simultaneously on BET, MTV, VH1, and Logo.
