Julie Chen is an American television personality, producer and news anchor at CBS. She is well known for being both a moderator and host of CBS’ The Talk and also as a host of the American version of the reality show Big Brother since its inception in 2000.

Julie Chen is the daughter of Chinese immigrants (Wan Ling Chen and David Y Chen) born in Queens, New York on January 6, 1970. She has two older sisters, Gladys and Victoria.
Chen was well-educated, beginning her education in middle school, Whitestone, Queens, before attending St. Francis Preparatory School, where she graduated in 1987. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in administration from broadcasting and English from the University of Southern California in 1991.
Julie revealed in an interview that she knew she would be a media personality the moment she saw an Asian named Kaity Tong as a broadcaster on ABC. At the time, it was very difficult to see an Asian as a news anchor and her mother pointed out to her that she could do it.

Career
She started out as a CBS Morning News intern alongside Andy Cohen. As an intern on the network, she answered phones and copied faxes for distribution.
Yet as a student, Chen worked on ABC’s NewsOne for a season as an office assistant. After doing a good job as an office assistant, she was promoted to producer and stayed with ABC for three years.
In 1995, she moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she worked as a news anchor for WDTN-TV until 1997. In Dayton, Chen underwent blepharoplasty – a surgery that made her eyes look bigger .
From 1999 to 2012, she anchored CBS Morning News, This Morning and The First Show alongside Maggie Rodriguez, Bryant Gumbel, Rene Syler, Harry Smith, Jane Clayson, Erica Hill and Hannah Storm.
Prior to anchoring CBS News, Chen worked as a reporter and weekend anchor at WCBS-TV in New York. In 2000, she became the host of the American version of Big Brother
Julie also appeared as a guest on the NCIS: Los Angeles episode of The Line of Duty, starring as its ambassador. She also made appearances in the following films: Madam Secretary, Jane the Virgin, The Return, The Mad Godfathers, The Millers and Life in Pieces.

The couple began dating while Leslie was still married to Nancy Wiesenfeld Moonves. Nancy filed for divorce in 2003, citing irreconcilable differences. After so many disagreements over their financial settlement, the couple finally separated in 2004.
On December 23, 2004, Chen and Moonves tied the knot in a ceremony at a private home in Acapulco, Mexico, which was attended by a few friends and family members. The couple welcomed their first child together, Charlie Moonves, on September 24, 2009.
