DJ Quik asserts that he, not Kanye West, brought El DeBarge back. I bought @ElDeBarge back 1st and got him paid. @kanyewest gets all the credit. Unfair. Im bout to do some blow and drink Jameson. #FTW, the Compton, California rapper-producer wrote on Twitter yesterday (March 3).

DJ Quik asserts that he, not Kanye West, brought El DeBarge back.

“I bought @ElDeBarge back 1st and got him paid. @kanyewest gets all the credit. Unfair. I’m bout to do some blow and drink Jameson. #FTW,” the Compton, California rapper-producer wrote on Twitter yesterday (March 3).

DJ Quik featured El DeBarge on three songs from his acclaimed 1998 album, rhythm-al-ism: single “Hand In Hand,” “EL’s Interlude” and “Medley For A ‘V’ (The P***y Medley).”

El DeBarge also appears on “Highlights,” a cut from Kanye West’s The Life Of Pablo album, which was released last month.

El DeBarge rose to prominence in the 1980s as a member of DeBarge, a group featuring some of his brothers and one of his sisters. The group enjoyed success with such singles as “All This Love” and “Rhythm of the Night.” 

In 1986, El DeBarge embarked upon a solo career, scoring hits with “Who’s Johnny” and “Love Always.” He continued releasing solo material until 1994.

Due to the increased profile he enjoyed through his work with DJ Quik and brother Chico, among others, El DeBarge released his Second Chance album in 2010.

Less than an hour after his tweet about El DeBarge, DJ Quik said he made good on his promise.

“I’m good do not worry,” he wrote. “I don’t troll or fish the web for sympathy. I’m just High as Eagle Balls rite now !”
