The Los Angeles police department has released a formal statement regarding the cause of his death in Hollywood.
When Anton Yelchin failed to show up for rehearsal, his friends went to his home, and that’s when he was discovered deceased. According to the statement, a fatal traffic collision occurred at ten past one in the morning on Sunday, June 19th. This accident only involved Yelchin.
The statement revealed he exited his car and left it in his driveway. The actor’s own vehicle rolled back down his steep driveway. He was pinned between a brick mailbox pillar and a security fence. The police didn’t say why he left his car.
The actor’s friends, colleagues and studio, Paramount, are in shock by his death and are in deep mourning. Paramount also released a statement expressing their grief: “As a member of the Star Trek family, he was beloved by so many and he will have missed by all. We share our deepest condolences with his mother, father and family.”
Anton Yelchin was born in Russia and got his start in acting by appearing in films such as Along Came a Spider and Hearts in Atlantis. He solidified his status as an upcoming child actor by appearing in Taken, a miniseries directed by Stephen Spielberg.
He appeared in the television series, Huff and also starred in films like Terminator Salvation and Charlie Bartlet. He is probably most known for his portrayal as Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek reboot series. Anton Yelchin played Chekov in two films and will appear posthumously in star Trek Beyond later this year.
There’s no answer why some leave us so abruptly and so tragically. The beauty of film though, is Anton Yelchin will forever be immortalized on screen through the characters he played.
